April 2022 News from the Chi Family

April seems to be a busy month all around. We just got back from an awesome Weekend at Chi program, and are gearing up for our big Orientation Day. Camp is getting prepped for summer with updates to the Media Arts Center, Culinary Center, The Outpost Village, and more. And even though we’ve had a wet start to Spring, a little bit of rain can’t stop all the exciting accomplishments within the rest of the Camp Chi Family. Ready to celebrate? Well look no further. The Chi Family has been pretty busy so far!

Camp Chi was well represented at Springboard Chicago’s Annual 18 Under 18 Celebration! Hannah Toppel and Jacob Edley was recognized as two of this year’s honorees. Plus, Rachel Luban was one of the musicians and both Ethan Siegel and Ashley Gitles served as the co-Masters of Ceremony. Also in attendance were Springboard Ambassadors Alexa Turner, Alison Finn, & Peyton Coslow. So great to see the Camp Chi Family represented!
As Spring is the time for new life, we’re excited to welcome some new additions to the Chi Family. Our very own Jon & Martha Levin are grandparents again as Tripp Ethridge and Clare Rohr welcomed Luke William Ethridge (pictured above with siblings Cole & Brooke). Eric & Erin Fettner also welcomed Brooklyn Arnette, and Rebecca & Caleb Tomlin welcomed Ruth Elizabeth. We can’t wait for these little ones to visit Chi someday soon.
We have some exciting school updates as well. Sonia Fantz graduated Summa Cum Laude with a MS in Secondary Education from Johns Hopkins University. Eli Sternweiler is headed to the University of the Pacific where he will play D1 Water Polo. Noah Fishman is off to Indiana University, and Zack Lofman is headed to the University of Michigan.
Preparing for college applications in the future, Emma Preston was inducted into the Deerfield Highschool Hebrew Honors Society. Way to go!
The job and internship updates are rolling in as well! Brandon Gitles is starting a full-time job at Legacy.com as Business Strategy Analyst. Longtime Chi photographer James Franks was accepted into an NCAA Photos/Clarkson Creative Photography workshop at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Minneapolis! Max Kaufman will be in Tel Aviv this summer as a marketing/business development intern at Imperium Jets. Ian Ward won’t be returning to Chi this summer as he accepted an offer with Sherwin-Williams as a Management and Sales Intern. And last but not least, Elliot Berger matched for his Medical Residency in Interventional Radiology at Aurora St. Lukes in Milwaukee.
We heard that both Charley Finn and Venice Czarnecki-Lichstein did a wonderful job on the Bimah celebrating their individual Bnai Mitzvot. Mazel Tov to you both!
Maxwell Glick continues to bring home the hardware! Max recently got 1st place all-around at Men’s Level 5 State Championship, and then his team won 1st place at Regionals, where he placed 3rd in all-around. Great to see your hard work paying off!
And finally, our friends at Keshet continue to do great things. Joelle Kelenson and Drew McNamara were both nominated for the Springboards LEAD Award (Leader, Educator, Advisor, and Dugma) by the teen participants they work with! The LEAD award is given to an outstanding adult each year who goes above and beyond in their role of educating and caring for Jewish teens.
