Camp in the Winter?!

For nearly a century, Camp Chi has enriched summers for countless children, helping them grow into independent young people and leaders in their communities. For much of that century, the bulk of our program has happened in June, July and August. The times when it is hot, and you want to spend your days in flip flops, in the water, and racing to the canteen to get the first slush puppy. But did you know camp is just as fun, if not funner (it will be winter break, so grammar can take a break too), over the winter. Here are just some reasons why camp in the winter the absolute best:
Lodging in Perlstein
Instead of the cabins, which are not insulated, we’ll be staying across the bridge at the Perlstein Retreat Center. The Perlstein rooms are hotel-style, and each are individually climate controlled, with a private bath and includes linens and towels. Enjoy the lap of luxury this winter at Perlstein.
Ski Takes on a New Meaning
You can still ski in the winter, just not waterski… We’ll head to the mountains instead of the lake and strap on our ski’s and snowboards to ride the powder. Never gone skiing before? Don’t worry- we start the day with a lesson, so everyone can get be safe. Want to enjoy the snow, but skiing and snowboarding aren’t your thing? You don’t have to go. You’ll still get to enjoy the mountain when we go tubing. No lessons required to enjoy the speed as you race down the hill.
Indoor S’mores
You can’t have camp without s’mores. You just can’t! But it may be a little chilly to sit around a bonfire at night to roast the marshmallows. Well- problem solved. Perlstein has its own indoor fireplace. So, gather round and roast show everyone how you can roast the perfect mallow.
Waterpark Day (yes, you read that right)
Waterpark day is something every camper looks forward to each session. And even in December, we won’t disappoint. We’ll head to the indoor waterpark this time of the year, where we can still get wet and wild, racing down slides and jumping waves.
Hot Cocoa
It may not be slush puppy season right now, but we have the next best thing- hot chocolate. While a cove water slush puppy is perfect to cool you down on a hot summer day, nothing is quite as good as a hot chocolate after spending the day in the snow.
Did Someone Say Snow?
Yup, snow! We may be used to the warmth of summer, but we are certainly not afraid of the winter. We embrace the snow, as we build snow forts, go snow shoeing, have snowball fights, make snow angels, and more!
So Many Options. So Little Time
True, we can’t go swimming or waterskiing, but the winter possibilities are endless at camp! Head onto the frozen Lake Blass to play broomball, build a snow fort, enjoy a snowball fight and go sledding through the 600 acres! Did we mention that a hayride is twice as fun in the winter? The program possibilities are endless
The same fun and friendships
Fill in the blank: Camp wouldn’t be camp without _______________________________________.
99% of people will usually list a person or people in that blank. We know that the facilities are amazing, and the programs are top-notch, but the people are what make camp so special. And no matter what the season, camp friends are the best friends. Whether you are coming with a friend, or meeting new ones at our winter programs, you’re guaranteed to leave with more friends. That’s the Camp Chi Magic!
