Infusing Israel Into Chi
We are about to celebrate Yom Haatzmaut- Israel’s Independence Day. While we won’t be at camp to celebrate Israel’s 70th birthday, we do many things to help Israel come alive at camp, as fostering a positive relationship with Israel is a central component of the Chi experience. We try to bring Israel alive in many ways including programs, music, activities in the Israeli village and the use of Hebrew. However, we have found that nothing helps build a more meaningful relationship than the person to person connection.
Our Schlichim, or the delegation of Israeli staff, we hire each year, are the ones who work hard to infuse Israel into Camp Chi. This year, we are pleased to have 14 schlichim! Of those 14, four of them are returning staff members and we are excited to have at least one Israeli staff member represented in almost every area of camp. We caught up with each of our schlichim and wanted to celebrate Israel’s birthday by introducing (or re-introducing) them to the Camp Chi Family!
So without any further ado, please meet our 2018 schlichim:
Inbar Davish
Inbar Davish is returning for his second summer in the Israel Village. At 23 years old, Inbar has previously served in the Israeli Navy and spent his year working for NFTY (a Jewish American youth group gap year in Israel) on a Kibbutz near Jerusalem, not so different from the Kibbutz in the north he grew up on!
Aviv Rodridguez
Aviv Rodridguez is from Modiin and is ready to return to the athletic fields! Aviv’s athleticism has come in handy as he has a job a body guard for a high ranking member of the Israel Defense Force.
Michael Levy
Michael Levy will be 23 this summer and is returning for a second time to the ropes course! He is from Or Akiba and he cannot wait to feel the Camp Chi Magic again!
Inbar Tzivik
Inbar Tzivik is 23 years old from Tel Aviv. She will be working at the Pool. Inbar is really excited to come to camp because she went to camp as a camper and wants to give back the experience she had!
Noam Even
Noam Even is 23 from Raanana. He will be joining the Horseback riding this summer! Noam is currently an officer in the army, but once he finishes he is heading to university, where he is looking forward to studying business administration and finance!
Amit Negby
Amit Negby will turn 22 just before her arrival to camp and is from a little city just outside of Tel Aviv. Amit will bring her professional world to camp, as she has been a radio producer for GLZ radio (the radio for the Israel Defense Forces) and is currently working in the Television new division of the Israeli public broadcasting network. You will find her singing along the music she will playing at WCHI!
Liran Kremnitzer
Liran Kremnitzer has been coming to camp for several years, having just been named an honorary SIT 17 and this year is excited to join Kyle in in Noar! You can always find him spending time at the pool and singing out of the tune by the campfire, waiting for his 2 daughters to be old enough to come to Chi!
Shaked Rashkovits
Shaked Rashkovits is 20 and she is from Shimshit, a small community in the Jezreel Valley. You can find her in the Israel village teaching us about her passion for Israeli music and artists, like Hadag Nachash, Shomo artzi and the Mercedes band!
Roee Elkoubi
Roee Elkoubi is 21 and lives in Ashdod. He is working at the Cove this summer, but what he is most excited for is having his first s’more this summer.
Liat Ofir
Liat Ofir is 23 and currently lives in Tel Aviv. A world traveler, Liat has lived in Georgia and the Ukraine. This summer Liat will be a counselor working Keshet and is excited to get to know her campers!
Eyal Perez
Eyal Perez is 21 and for Modiin. This summer he will be a counselor and he is excited to bring both his Israeli culture to his cabin, as well as Mexican flare, as his dad is originally from Mexico.
May Elnathan
May Elnathan is currently 20 years old and will be working at outdoor cooking summer. She is looking forward to learning the birthday dance and celebrating her 21st birthday at Chi!
Eitan Fass
Eitan Fass is 21 and is from Rehovot. This summer, he will be joining the PNW staff on an adventure of a lifetime. He is no stranger to being around a lot of noise as he has 3 siblings, a dog and a pet parrot. He will fit right in on the bus!
Amit Mackovy
Amit Mackovy had her first camp experience last summer working for Camp USA, a program that brings Israeli campers to Chi and is returning to staff PNW! She is currently on a gap year program working with Jewish teens in Orlando, FL making Israel come alive!
We are also always excited to welcome a number of Israeli campers to camp over the summer. We pride ourselves on how welcoming and inclusive Camp Chi is and we hope you will join us in welcoming our entire Israeli delegation!
