Make a Bracelet for a Future Friend

Chi Does Good

Every Thursday during these crazy times we are highlighting ways you can show that #ChiDoesGood. So far we’ve made masks to help the workers on the front lines, and shared warmth and messages with lonely people in nursing facilities. This week we are focusing on helping the Camp Chi Family prepare for camp, particularly new campers.

Every alumni and camper  was once new to Chi, and we all know the bravery it takes to go to overnight camp for the first time. Now imagine being a new camper and seeing the values of Chi in action as you are welcomed to the Camp Chi Family. You can help make that new camper feel so much more welcome by doing something our campers, staff, and alumni excel in- making friendship bracelets!

Friendship bracelets and tie-dye compete for the campiest craft there is, and friendship bracelets are much easier, less messy, and have a much stronger message. You see, you don’t usually make a friendship bracelet for yourself. Instead, it is usually for someone else, and in this case a new camper.

There are many different designs and patterns you can follow to make a friendship bracelet. Ally demonstrates 3 of them below, or you can find many different templates on Youtube. All you need is string, a pair of scissors, and some tape.

Once your bracelet is made, send it to us at 3050 Woodridge, Northbrook, IL 60062 and we can get it to a new camper. Bonus points if you include a letter to the new camper with some advice and a welcoming message.

Here is Ally, a second year counselor and a  7-year camper with a how to guide to friendship bracelets.
