March News from the Chi Family!
March news has come in like a lion and we are so proud and happy for the Camp Chi Family! So many reasons to celebrate our alums, staff and campers. Check it out below.
Be sure to buckle up as we welcome Lucas Absler and Ben Kalish to the roads as licensed drivers!
The Chi connection to AEPi at Bradley University continues to get stronger and we want to congratulate James Franks (Scribe) and Reece Weber (Rush Chair) on being elected to Bradley AEPi’s Excutive Board.
The whole Camp Chi family wishes Mia Latinik a big mazel tov on her recent bat mitzvah.
Can you say dynasty? The Carmel High School Girls Swim Team just won their 32nd consecutive state title. And our own Hailey Fox is a part of that team! As they say in Finding Nemo, just keep swimming Hailey!
Those college decisions keep rolling in and we want to congratulate the newest students at University of Illinois: Carli Kanter, Kiki Rosenblatt, Ely London, Ben Block-Glickman and Lauryn Smith. Also, David Stern is headed to the University of Missouri and Jeremy Stein will attend Miami University.
Miles Evans deserves a double congratulations as he will be attending the College of DuPage and will continue work at his two restaurant jobs. That is a very impressive work ethic Miles- way to go!
Wishing a hearty mazel tov to Caroline Belloff (photographed above with her camp friends) on her recent wedding. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.
Another Chi wedding is in the works as Aaron Appelbaum and Alexa Winestock recently got engaged. We couldn’t be happier for these two, who started dating at camp and have been together ever since.
Gymnastics may just have to be a new specialty soon, as our campers are so good at it. Lucas Absler recently placed fourth at sectionals and Maxwell Glick placed first in his recent meet. Way to go, guys!
The Camp Chi Family is growing. Mazel tov to Brian Goncales on the birth of Nyah Elizabeth, Ilya Karagodin on the birth of Liora Hannah and Jen Ryan Lane on the birth of Ellie Faye. We can’t wait for to meet these future Chi campers!
The camp talent show is excited to see what Jaden Roth presents this year. He and the Phantom Dance Team recently won 1st place in their hip hop dance competition.
We are so proud of our own assistant director, Joelle Kelenson, for being part of the Foundation for Jewish Camp’s prestigious Yitro Leadership Program. Joelle joins an impressive cohort of colleagues from across the Jewish camp field, and an elite network of nearly 60 Yitro graduates.
There is something surreal when a former camper and staff member joins the camp field as a professional, and we are thrilled to welcome Laura Goodsite to the field, and to the JCC Chicago family as the Assistant Director of Programming at ‘Z’ Frank Apachi J Camp. All the ZFA families and staff are lucky to have Laura on their team.
Missing the PyeongChang Olympics? Fear not, we may see a familiar face in 2022. Molly Kaplan and her team earned gold medals in 2 division at the Midwest Synchronized Skating Championship. It also qualified her to participate in the USFSA National Synchronized Skating Championship in Portland at the end of February. Keep up the great work, Molly!
Congrats to Noah Grijnsztein and the Hawthorn Middle School basketball team who played their hearts out and won their conference basketball championship.
The Oscars are now over and the Tony’s are a few months away, but we’d give the award to Shaya Harris who did outstanding in Another Door Theatre Project’s production of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
