Mix It Up Monday

June is here and summer is in the air. While we remain distanced to stay safe and healthy, we are excited to offer you some activities to keep the camp vibes alive and well in your house. And since the weather is so nice, we’ve added a bonus something for this week. Don’t forget to check out the previous Mix It Up Mondays for more activities to keep everyone busy.

Something Tasty: French Toast Sticks

Here is a recipe for one of the most beloved camp breakfasts… French Toast Sticks!!

Ingredients & Supplies:
– 4 Thick slices of white bread (stale bread works great for this)
– 2 eggs
– ¼ cup milk
– Pinch of salt
– 1/3 cup sugar
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– 3 Tbsp butter
-Maple syrup to serve (optional but encouraged)

Directions:
1. Remove crust from bread, cut each slice into 3 equal sticks
2. Combine eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt in a bowl large enough to roll the bread sticks in.
3. Combine the cinnamon and sugar on a plate or pie dish.
4. Melt butter in a large pan over medium high heat.
5. Roll the bread sticks in the egg mixture quickly (do not soak), shake off excess and place in pan.
6. Turn to cook each side until golden.
7. Immediately transfer to the plate with cinnamon sugar and roll to coat
8.Dunk in maple syrup (or whatever you prefer)
9. Enjoy!

Something Active: Take A Hike

Now that summer weather is finally here, there could be better time to take a walk or hike in your local forest preserve! Bring some water and maybe a picnic and have a great afternoon outside of the house! If you have a four-legged family member, we’re sure they would enjoy this activity as well.

Something Messy: Messy Twister

Our messy activity for this week is a super fun “twist” on a classic favorite- messy twister! Get out your twister board or create your own with a plastic tablecloth and some markers. Add some paint to the corresponding colors, get outside and have a great time!

Bee warned- this is the epitome of messy, so you’ll want to make sure to get hosed off outside before tracking paint all of your house.

Something Different: Theme Your Day or Meal

Looking for a creative way to entertain the family? Try theming your day or even just dinner, just like we do at camp for different evening programs! Pull out your Hawaiian shirts and have a luau or grab your favorite baseball jersey and have a ballpark hot dog dinner. The options are endless and it will be fun for everyone!

Something Artsy: Do Some Drawing

Carli showed us her art skills earlier and taught us at the same time. Maybe you’re ready to jump into the more challenging ones she showed like Ferb or Mickey Mouse’s profile. Or stay campy with the Chi Flame or amphitheatre. It’s up to you. Get your paper ready and watch Carli’s demonstration.

Missed the video demonstration? Check it out:

In addition to being a great staff member and superb SIT Staff, Carli is one incredibly talented artist as well and she took a little time to help all of us learn how to draw everything from the Chi Flame to Mickey Mouse to the Amphitheatrea and more!
