March News from the Chi Family!

News from the Chi Family

March has certainly come in like a lion and with it, so have many reasons for the Camp Chi family to celebrate. With a ton of college decisions, many b’nai mitzvot and other happy things, we are proud to present the March edition of the News from the Chi Family! Have news for us to share? Submit it  here.

It’s been a busy month of college decisions, as the decision day gets nearer. We are so proud of Rachel Brown (University of Arizona), Ari Dattel (Mizzou), Anna Perleberg (University of Denver), Jacob Freedman (Ball State University), Gabe Burdeen (Indiana University), Zoe Weiner and Mollie Chubin (University of Illinois) on making this important decision.

Jordyn Rubin’s cabin always looked so impressive and now we know why. Jordyn recently won 1st place in the Section 5 FCCLA contest for interior design. Good luck at Sates!

Speaking of states, Max Himelstein, Misha Rekhter and Max Hurwitz just placed first in the Indiana DECA competition in the franchise business plan category and are heading to nationals in Orlando. Good luck gentlemen!

Also heading to nationals are Alyssa Mueller and her speech and debate team. Speak eloquently and good luck!

You’d better buckle up as both Logan Friedman and Matt Sturt recently got their driving permits. Congrats to both of you!

We couldn’t be prouder of Landon “Juice” Cohen who was given a standing ovation at the December Hillel International Conference for his moving talk on inclusion. Landon was chosen to be one of the keynote speakers for the conference because of his work as student engagement director at the University of Cincinnati’s Hillel as his ongoing advocacy for the LGBTQ Jewish community.

We are so proud of Camryn Friedman. Camryn was recently given the Outstanding Student Trainer Award at Stevenson High School.

The boys of Habo are racking up their trophies as Noah Grijnsztein and the Hawthorn South Volleyball team won their championship. Meanwhile, on his 14th birthday, Dylan Rategan and his hockey team won the 2019 Illinois State Hockey Championship, with Dylan as their starting goalie. Way to go guys!

Maybe we should bring robotics to camp- Matthew Bender could certainly lead it as he and his robotics team were crowned Tournament Champions and Robot Skill Champions at the VEX Robotics Competition. Very impressive!

After graduating high school, most people go to college, get a job, or participate in a gap year program. Well, not Ben Davis. Ben and his dad, Steve, are running their second season of an after school sports program they founded in Cape Town, South Africa. That’s awesome Ben!

Maxwell Glick continues to show his gymnastics prowess, winning 1st place all around at a recent competition in Las Vegas. Way to go!

Mazel tov to our recent b’nai mitzvot Max Greenberg-Winnick and Lindsay Gluck. We heard you both did beautifully on the bimah!

Congratulations to Tegan Smith on her recent marriage! We are so happy for you!

From Liverpool to the pool, then the cove, and now Australia, Gavin Poole recently got engaged to Shani Richards. Congratulations to both of you! We wish you nothing but love and happiness.

Everyone knows that Max Rattner and Jeremy Stein are great guys, right? Well if you didn’t before, you do now. Both Max and Jeremy recently competed in the Nice Jewish Boy at Miami University of Ohio. The pageant raises funds for HawkPAC, a political action committee under Students for Israel at Miami that works directly with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). After what sounds like a great competition, our own Jeremy Stein was crowned Nice Jewish Boy with a gold kippah.

At the Keshet Banquet just last Sunday, we were wowed by the talents of the Keshet Integrated Choir featuring the talent of some very familiar faces including Netta Hardin, Lily Rubin, Zach Brown, Nick Rivera, Zoe Grenrock, Adam Heichman, Aiva Herszage, Avi Lesser, Emma Lookatch, Joaquin Rivera, Trevor Charney and Nahi Lichtenstein.

Have news to share?  We want to hear all about it so be sure to submit it  here.
