June News From the Chi Family
June is here, and camp is just days away! The excitement amongst the staff during training has been tangible and we can’t wait to see what everyone achieves this summer. Speaking of achievements, the past month has been filled with them in addition to milestones, celebrations and news for many people in the Chi family and we are so excited to share it all with you!
We would love to start by congratulating all of our recent graduates. They have worked so hard to graduate from their respective schools. Congratulations to Zach Sandler, Sara Wineburgh, Abby Brown, Sam Welbel, Josh Krawitz, Wyatt Mekler, Alexa Kotlyar, Apple Speropulos, Sarah Garr, Amanda Johnson, Andy Margolis, Michael Schoenberg, Mel Racenstein, Lauren Segal, Joey Slater, Jordan Ginsburg, Elliot Berger, Amanda Johnson, Maddy VDK, Emily Rodheim, Arin Kerstein, Andrew Coopersmith, Griffin Schwartz and George Thombs. Toss those caps in the air and be proud of all your hard work!
Look out staff, because in 2019 the SITs are going to have a great player, as Alex Rosen led the Glenbrook North Volleyball team to an undefeated season. Joining Alex in the Chi athlete club this month are Zach Klein, whose team won their Ultimate Frisbee league, Jonah Sternweiler, who was part of his school’s freshman boys track and field team and they won the invitational championship, and Lucas Asbler, who competed with the varsity gymnastics team at his school, qualified for sections and states in rings – it was his school’s first time qualifying for states.
Love must have been in the air, as we wish a hearty Mazel Tov to these 4 Camp Chi couples who just got married! Congrats to newlyweds Natalie Bayer and Ethan Poglese, Jamie Cohen and Ben Peven, Eitan Kribu and Rita Lapidus, and Brandon Purcel and Steph Wilson! We hope the weddings were great and we wish nothing but the best for you.
Speaking of love, did you hear the big news? Seth Pawlow and Melanie Abramowicz recently got engaged, as did Helen Cullen. We couldn’t be happier for all of you and wish you nothing but the best as well.
Part of the SIT program is teaching future staff how to program and developing creative program skills. It looks like Spencer Sher can skip those sessions, as he recently was awarded the Lawrence J. Levine awarded for Innovative Programing by Congregation Beth Shalom. Way to go Spencer!
We clearly don’t lack talent at Camp Chi and we wish we could have seen Abbey Finn performing recently in her school’s production of Les Miserables. We heard she did an absolutely outstanding job!
Watch out road, as we have 2 more campers with their licenses. Congrats to Mark and Nina Lozovnoy. Don’t forget to use your turn signals!
We are so proud of our campers who have had their B’nai Mitzvot during the past month. Mazel Tov to Kevyn Kerwin, Spencer Paul, Rachel Eisenberg and Aden Kozel.
We also have some award winners in our family that make us so proud. Congratulations to Alysa Mages who joined the National Honor Society. Congratulations to Max and Benny Liber who were inducted into International Thespian Society. Congratulations to Larry Bender, who won the Harper College Phi Beta Kappa Award.
Off to college these people go! These people have committed to Universities. Congrats to Lindsey Ginsburg (UW Madison), Max Rattner (Miami University) and Layna Paraboschi (Wash U in St. Louis).
While we will miss her dearly at camp this summer, we are so proud of Melissa Liberson, who will be working with the EPA this summer.
We are very proud of Jessica Maslanka who recently joined the US Air Force. Thank you Jess! Stay safe!
The leadership skills of our campers and staff never cease to amaze us and we are so proud of the campers who were elected to the board of their BBYO Chapter, Ometz. Congrats to Grant Katzenstein (Godol), Zachary Kutnick (Moreh) and Daniel Korol (Shaliach). Make us proud boys!
We are so proud of everyone and their accomplishments and cannot wait for camp to begin soon!
With camp starting, we won’t post July and August news, but will include it all in the September edition, so keep the news coming by submitting it here.
