April News from the Chi Family!
April has arrived and spring is here. As we gear up for camp, there are so many things to announce and celebrate within the Camp Chi Family. Check it out below.
The college decisions are still coming in rapidly and we are so happy for Jacob “Fridge” Morris (Virginia Tech), Gabriella Cooperman (Washington University in St. Louis), Emily Kahn (Syracuse), Carly LeFar (University of Wisconsin, Madison), Dana Steinberg (University of California at San Diego), Izzy Becker Bogan and AJ Katzenstein (Indiana University), and Lauren Goodsnyder and Zoe Robbins (University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana) on these momentous decisions.
Lindsay Weisskopf is doing great work at Highland Park High School. Lindsay recently was named to the HPHS Focus Board, putting the focus on the arts.
Congratulations to Max Himelstein and Jacob Freedman on their recent participation in Indiana’s DECA (a high school business club) competition. Max’s team finished first and is heading to Atlanta soon for the international competition. Jacob’s team finished 4th and is the alternate team and will head to Atlanta if one of the other Indianapolis teams is unable to attend.
Kiki Rosenblatt is more than just a great counselor- she may have a new job at the stables soon. Kiki placed 5th in a recent horseback riding competition. Way to go Kiki!
We are so proud of Elana Redfern who was recently inducted into the National Honors Society at Lake Zurich High School.
All good things must come to an end and Scott Harris’s wrestling career ended with the end of his senior season. But, as usually, Scott went out with a bang, winning the cougar pride award for the second straight season, being named to the all-conference in central suburban league for the 2nd consecutive season, finishing the year with 30 wins and being named an alternate at the state competition (and getting to wrestle at states), all while being a captain for the past 2 seasons. You should be very proud of your wrestling career Scott!
The Blackhawks season may be a wash, but hockey is still exciting, as Tyler Coslow and the Chicago Stallions Squirt 4 Team won the hockey state championship for their division!
In March, Keshet hosted their annual banquet and, as usual, there was a strong Chi contingent in attendance. In addition to the adults who were in attendance, several Chi campers (both past and present) were part of the Keshet Integrated Choir, which wowed us with some stunning vocal performances, including The Hope. A standing ovation to Julian Aquino, Trevor Charney, Zoe Grenrock, Adam Heichman, Jessica Kotler, Chloe LaVarre, Nicholas Rivera and Jadyn Pollack on a fantastic performance.
Mazel tov to Sam Geyer and Maya Barlev on their recent b’nai mitzvot. Maya and her family traveled to Israel to commemorate the big day. We heard you both did great!
Whatever you do, don’t get into an argument with Matt Sturt, he will very likely win. He did after all just compete in the state debate tournament and placed 5th as an individual and was in the top 16 with a partner.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again- don’t mess with Mike Majewski. He now has to make room on his mantle for the most recent trophy from winning 2nd place in his division at the recent International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation competition.
We are so happy to announce that Melissa Keene Gilman welcomed a new baby, Shane Ori. We can’t wait to meet him soon.
Abby Brown is celebrating passing her EDTPA, a performance-based teaching assessment. We are so proud of you Abby!
We know from winter camp that Morrison Giggetts is a great skier. But now the whole nation knows as Morrison won the bronze medal in a recent NASTAR (National Standard Race) in Colorado.
We are so happy for Adam and Melissa Bellows. Adam accepted a position to become Assistant Rabbi at United Hebrew Congregation in St. Louis. Adam and Melissa, who met at Camp Chi and their two kids will be moving to St. Louis this summer.
Following up on her accomplishments in the March news, Molly Kaplan and her intermediate team won gold and are the United States Figure Skating Association’s National Champions! Her Novice team earned a 4th place finish, which got them a pewter medal. This is the culmination of 100 of hours of practice and hard work. Way to go Molly!
