A Chi Spring Break for Teens

Throughout the last week of March Camp Chi had nearly 40 teens participating in a variety of amazing five-day Springboard Spring Break opportunities. Not only did we have a group of teens exploring the Northeast on our Hall of Fame Road Trip, but we also had teens participating on a Master Chef Workshop, a Wilderness Adventure exploration, and an intensive Sports experience. These programs were made possible through our partnership with Springboard, which is a community initiative created with the support of JUF/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, the Jim Joseph Foundation and a consortium of local funders.
The Hall of Fame Road Trip left on a coach bus from Northbrook and went all the way to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Along the way they also stopped in Canton, Ohio, for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Cleveland, Ohio, for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and even stopped in Buffalo, New York, for a visit to Niagara Falls. The participants all had a great time hanging out on the bus and seeing all the amazing sites.
Our Wilderness program learned a variety of wilderness survival skills including fire building, outdoor cooking, shelter building, hiking, and more. They even took a trip to Devils Lake State Park to put all of their new skills to use and tested their skills on our high ropes and aerial adventure courses!
The Master Chef program learned to cook a variety of different dishes! They baked cupcakes and challah rolls, made their own sushi, learned knife skills, and competed in a master chef competition. To wrap up the program they made a “Thanksgiving Dinner” for all of the other participants that included two preparations of turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato wedges, cranberry sauce, challah rolls, apple strawberry crisp, and more!
The Sports program participated in a variety of sports and activities throughout the week including golf, mini golf, hockey, lacrosse, frisbee golf, mountain biking, ultimate frisbee, basketball, volleyball, and more! They also worked on their team building by completing our aerial adventure course and by going to a local escape room, which they completed in just 36 minutes!
Overall it was an amazing week, and we were so glad we were able to spend Spring Break with so many amazing people!
