June is here and camp is just days away! The excitement amongst the staff during training has been tangible and we can’t wait to see what everyone achieves this summer. Speaking of achievements, the past month has been filled with achievements, milestones, celebrations and news for many people in the Chi family and we are so excited to share it with you!Have news for us to share? We hope the campers on PNW are ready for some breathtaking views while doing yoga, as Amanda Johnson is now a certified yoga teacher.
Be sure to buckle up as we have two new drivers in the Chi Family, as both Michael Buzil and Stephen Vozar got their licenses recently.
The bar and bat mitzvah scene has been filled with Chi campers recently and we want to wish a hearty mazel tov to Maya Abrams, Ruthie Seder, Lindsey Oldham, Aiva Herszage, Sam Balkansky, Sydney Zuckert and Simon Zuckert on their recent simchot!
The college decisions keep coming in and we are very proud of Eli Friedman (University of Michigan), Matthew Ohrn (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) and Sam Cooperman (Loyola Marymount University). We wish you three the best of luck in the fall!
Speaking of college, we have new group of college graduates in the Chi Family. Congratulations are in order for Jordan Goldberg (University of Illinois), Michael Cera (University of Wisconsin), Danielle Levine (Gonzaga), Melissa Liberson (Tulane), Daniel Bergelson (Georgetown), Reece Weber (Bradley), and Ashleigh Welsh (Victoria University of Wellington) on the recent graduations. We can’t wait to see what is next for each of you!
We’ve shared a lot of great things about Ben “Greenbean” Greenberg and we have another accomplishment to celebrate, as Ben won the Outstanding Student Activities Senior Award at his high school!
Zoe Okun is one smart cookie, but we already knew that. Zoe’s team from Northside College Prep won the State Championship in the Illinois Certamen League, a Latin/Classics quiz bowl. Zoe handles mythology for the novice team. She’ll be heading to Nationals this summer and we can’t wait to hear all about it.
Speaking of smart cookies, we are very proud of Jarett Fersten on his induction into the National Honors Society recently and of Blake Finkel, who was inducted into the National Honors Society last month and also the Hebrew National Honors Society this month. Way to go Jarett and Blake!
In everything you do, you should always strive to improve. That is a great philosophy and has paid off for Stephen Vozar who was named the most improved freshman/sophomore of his track team.
The Chi love bug has struck again, as two former staff, Max Layne-Biddle and Hannah Gross, are celebrating their engagement! Congrats to both of you.
Speaking of the Chi love bug, Aaron Appelbaum and Alexa Winestock recently tied the knot, 10 years after starting dating as Noar campers. The wedding was filled with friends and family from camp, showing just how impactful Chi can be. We wish both of you a hearty mazel tov! Thanks for the photo!
With camp starting, we won’t post July and August news, but will include it all in the September edition, so keep the news coming by submitting it here.
