News from the Chi Family

Now that April showers has passed, our May flowers should be blooming soon. As the weather is warming up and preparing us for camp, we have some exciting news to share from our Camp Chi family.

With today being decision day for most universities, we have some college decisions to announce. We are so happy for Jason Heilbronner (University of Illinois), Charlotte Olivia (Beloit College), Katie Kramer (University of Colorado, Boulder), Tera Eliasoff (Marquette University), Koby Preston (University of California, San Diego), Lily Witonsky (University of California, Santa Barbara) and Brandon Gitles (Indiana University).

April was a busy B’Nai Mitzvah month and we heard all of these campers did an amazing job on the bema and want to wish a big Mazel Tov to Matthew Bender, Caitlyn Altenberg, Henry Koyner, Dylan Rategan, Julia Kirsch and Emily Rosenblum.

We might have a future NBA player in our camp, as Ethan Hurwitz wowed the crowd at an Indiana Pacers game as the Honorary Ball Kid. Talk about Hoop Dreams!

Congratulations to our former Assistant Director of Camp, Jamie Lake! We will miss seeing her around the J, but she hasn’t moved far- she is now working with Keshet as the Director of Development.

Watch out roads, because our own Kendall Goldenson just got her driving permit. We’ll be excited to post again next year when she receives her drivers’ license. Remember to use your turn signals!

We are so proud of Arielle Pazol and the Stevenson Winter Guard, because they are officially the Midwest Champions! They’re routine wowed everyone with their dazzling flag skills.

As the Stanley Cup Playoffs are in progress, we are reminded of all the talent we have blossoming in camp, as Shaye Gruber made the Glenbrook North High School Hockey Team.

Congratulations to Rory Tinsley and Jennifer Clark as they just got engaged. As former High Ropes staff, we are sure they cannot wait until they tie the knot!

We have a lot of leaders in our Camp Chi Family as many of our campers have been elected to the boards of their youth groups. From the CHUSY Regional Board, we have Maddie Brim (President), Celia Giles (Executive VP), Jordyn Neiman (Membership/Kadima VP), Marc Luban (Religion/Education VP) and Elana Redfern (Social Action/Tikun Olam VP). We cannot wait to hear about all the amazing things you have planned.

There are also plenty of people from camp who were elected to leadership positions in BBYO. Congratulations to Ari Dattel (GMR Regional Godol), Jessica Tenenbaum (GMR Regional S’ganit), Alex Stein (GMR Regional Gizbor), Matt Sturt (GMR Regional Mazkir), Morgan Kravitz (GMR Regional Gizborit) and Blake Gitler (GMR Regional Shaliach). Congratulations to all of you! We are beyond proud!

It looks like we have a future banker, as Max Shapiro was elected as the Finance Director for the College Democrats of Illinois for 2018-2019. Congratulations Max!

We have some brainiacs in the Chi family as Max Hurwitz and Misha Rekhter were inducted into the Carmel High School National Honor Society. Congratulations guys- keep up the hard work!

Our campers love the spotlight and we heard that Shaya Harris was fantastic in the production of Pippin by Another Door Theatre Production. Can’t wait to see you on Broadway someday soon!

Congratulations to Laura Albun, who just got married. We hope you had fun at your wedding and we wish the best for you!

The Camp Chi family just got a little bit bigger, as Dan Roberts just welcomed his second child, Theodore “Teddy” Vincent Roberts. We wish the best for the Roberts family and cannot wait until Teddy is a camper at Chi.
