Camp Chi, Passover & The Prince of Egypt

By Camp Chi
Camp

We are in the midst of celebrating the Passover holiday and just finished commemorating the Jewish people’s exodus from Egypt with a variety of zoom seders and virtual connections. The story behind what is told at Passover can be found in the Torah, the book of Shmot or Exodus Chapters 1-15. One activity that many have done during this unexpected time at home has been to watch movies, and that is something the Camp Chi team enjoys as well. One of our favorite movies for this time of year, pandemic or not, is The Prince of Egypt. The 1998 animated film depicts the story of the Exodus from Egypt and brings it to life.  While it uses the words of the text as the basis of the film, there is certainly some creative leeway on the part of the filmmakers. This interpretation creates what is known as Midrash, commentary that expands upon the story, filling in gaps and answering questions.

We like the movie so much, we were discussing it during one of our virtual team meetings and put together an activity guide (below) for you and your family to use while you enjoy the movie. It is available on Hulu (with subscription) and available on demand on many other platforms. We invite you and your family to use this guide (below) and delve deeper in the world of the Egyptians and Israelites.
