Illuminating the Picnic Grove

By Camp Chi
Camp, Chi Centennial

Many Camp Chi campers, staff and alumni can remember eating a Saturday meal outside of the main dining hall, at the Picnic Grove, or P-Grove, as it is known. You can close your eyes and be right back there; the sun is shining, you’re savoring a cinnamon roll, and the Euchre games are getting competitive, and in the background you hear the SITs screaming and cheering.

For many who reminisce about the P-Grove, these memories mostly take place during the day. Thanks to the Camp Chi Centennial Campaign, the P-grove hours are about to get extended!

Current Camp Chi Staff Member Stephen Vozar has made a very generous donation to the Centennial Campaign to equip the P-Grove with lighting, for nighttime use! We look forward to utilizing the great outdoor space all night long for nighttime activities like Evening Programs, snacks, and maybe even an LNA (Late Night Adventure) or two! We are especially grateful for this gift this summer, as all Camp Chi meals will be eaten outdoors in the P-Grove this summer. Thanks to Stephen, we will see you and everyone else under the lights this summer!

And more changes are coming as well. Thanks to the generosity of the Firsel Family, a brand-new Welcome Arbor will be installed before Summer 2022. We cannot wait to add this element to the Picnic Grove and continue to develop and define the area.

Are you interested in leaving your mark on Camp Chi this year, its 100th summer? Is there a spot in camp that is near and dear to your heart? You can support Camp Chi’s Centennial Campaign here or contact us anytime at info@campchi.com.
