Mix It Up Monday #8
To some today is just another manic Monday. Another week of sheltering in place, and whether you are missing school, work, or even the most mundane outings, one thing is for sure- it is getting old for many of us. But we’ve got a big dose of Camp Chi Magic in store for you as we return to Mix It Up Monday. We’ve upped the campiness this week, and because our something active is also messy, we added a new category this week- something campy (even though it’s all pretty campy). So enjoy these screen-free activities for the family and don’t forget to check out the previous Mix It Up Mondays for more activities to keep everyone busy.
Something Tasty: Make your own Slush Puppy
If you’ve spent any time up at Chi, then you’ve definitely tried a Slush Puppy from the Canteen or Franteen! Nothing is better than an ice cold slushie on a hot day. Since the weather is really starting to feel like summer, we thought it would be a great idea to share an easy at home slushie recipe!
Ingredients & Supplies:
-Blender
-2 cups cold water
-1 Kool-Aid packet, any flavor of your choosing
-4 cups of ice
-Substitute water and Kool-Aid for your favorite juices or sodas (optional)
Directions:
1. Place all ingredients in blender in the order listed and blend until desired consistency!
2. Makes about 4 servings, pour into glasses for the whole family to enjoy!
Something Active & Messy: Paint Balloons
Everyone loves messy Evening Programs (Eps) at camp! Counselors love to plan them. Campers love to participate in them. And now you can plan one and run it for your family. So what are you waiting for- bring some messy camp fun home to your parents and siblings. And when you shower afterwards, be sure to wash behind your ears. Paint loves to hide there.
Here’s what you do:
1.Grab some washable paint and water balloons.
2. Fill up the water balloons and add some paint inside for a fun messy twist.
3. Now it’s up to you. You can do water balloon toss, paint war, water balloon baseball, or something else altogether. The options are endless!
Something Artsy: Create a Camp Photo Collage
We loved seeing all your special camp photos in our #ChiPhotoChallenge! We have all been spending a lot of time looking at camp photos lately. Reminiscing in great camp memories is always a feel-good activity. So why not use this time to gather up all of your favorite camp photos and create an awesome collage or scrapbook! Hang it up on your wall or frame your collage in a stand-up frame. We can’t wait to see what you all come up with!
Need More Photos? You can always log into your CampInTouch account, click on Photos under the “Online Community” heading, and find photos going back to 2014 there. Enjoy!
Something Campy: Stargazing
There is no better way to end a nice warm night than with a good stargazing session. Pick a nice clear night, grab some blankets, pillows, and a speaker, and head outside in your yard or nearby park. Lay back and listen to your favorite camp songs/ relaxing music. There is nothing better after a stressful week to relax and clear your mind.
Pro tip: if you are in your own yard turn off every light you can, the less light pollution the more stars you will be able to see.
