New this summer: Krav Maga

By Camp Chi

Camp

Being able to form real-world, face-to-face connections with Israeli culture is one of our favorite aspects of Camp Chi, and something that a lot of us have missed over the past year! This summer, we have lots of fun new upgrades to the Israeli Village, the center of Israeli culture at camp, but there’s one new activity that’s a bit more extreme than the rest.

For the first time ever, through a partnership with StandStrong, Camp Chi is going to be running Krav Maga as an activity! Krav Maga is a self-defense martial art that was developed for the Israeli Defense Force. StandStrong has provided training and guidance for  one of our Shlichim (Israeli Staff Members) with real-world experience who will be teaching Krav Maga at Chi this summer. The curriculum focuses on how to disengage without fighting. Campers will learn the full spectrum of techniques including how to disengage, 360 defense practices, and combinations to use in any situation.

Of course, campers will never need to use any of these skills in camp, but the activity will provide campers with empowerment, confidence, and will boost their self-esteem too! Staff have already gone through a lesson, and we can’t wait to see campers enjoy it too!
