News from the Camp Chi Family: Summer 2020 Edition

By Camp Chi
News from the Chi Family

July is here and instead of beating the heat at camp with extra pools and ice pops, we are still in the midst of a tumultuous year and a summer with no camp. But with all the craziness that has come our way this winter, spring, and now summer, the Chi Family continues to be a source of joy. Each day we see and hear of your accomplishments, your milestones, and it gives us reasons to smile and celebrate. As we continue to keep the flame burning, we ask that you join us in wishing mazel tov to everyone named below in this News from the Camp Chi Family. This will be our last News form the Chi Family until September, but if you have news to contribute, please submit it here.

Two members of the Camp Chi Family are continuing their work with kids as they enter the workforce. AJ Teplinsky will be teaching at Meridian School in Buffalo Grove in the fall and Sylvia Sukenic will be an LBS 1 teacher at District 39 at Wilmette Jr. High School. Congrats to both of you!

We always knew that Jack Glazer was pretty smart, and he proved it when he was the valedictorian for Deerfield High School’s graduating class. Nice going Jack!

Wedding bells were heard during quarantine as Michelle Weiler married Prasad Gagdil. The newlyweds were even featured in a news segment you can watch (and read more about ) here (check out the 2 minute mark). We wish you both a lifetime of happiness and love!

COVID can’t cancel b’nai mitzvot as Jeremy Wiesskopf, Ella Toppel, Jacob Gregerman, and Josh Luban (pictured above with his brother, Marc, and sister, Rachel) recently became b’nai mitzvah. Mazel tov to all of you and your family’s!

We are so happy for Jasmine Howard who welcomed a baby boy named Elijah just a few weeks ago. We are happy to hear that everyone is doing well, and we love the adorable photos!

Speaking of babies, Jesssica Milanovic (Craig) and her husband, Marko, are expecting and we couldn’t be happier for them.

College decisions keep coming in as Conor Delforge is off to Carthage College in the fall, while Marlee Fradin joins a large group from Camp Chi at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. We wish you both endless success!

Camp Chi created leaders, especially in the Jewish youth group realm. Allison Finn was recently elected as the Executive Vice President on Beth Judea USY’s board. Also, Dylan Kantor, a proud SIT of 2020, joins Zach Kutnik and Jake Leydermon on the Ometz AZA board as mazkir. Congrats to both of you!

There are some amazing mitzvah makers in the Camp Chi Family. Jessica Tenenbaum, who taught us how to do some graphic design for social media this spring, used her skills for good as she designed and sold stickers and donated the proceeds to the Equal Justice Initiative. You can see the sticker (and maybe even still contribute) on her Instagram @by.jtbaum.

Lyndsay Hamilton is no stranger to doing good. But she’s really upped the ante this pandemic as she has been visiting hospitals in Mexico for the past 20+ days, giving away free soup to hospital workers, families of patients waiting outside, and the homeless. Keep doing amazing things Lyndsay!

Have news to share? We want to hear all about it, so be sure to submit it here. We will continue with News from the Chi Family in September.
