Poshmark for SOT

By Guest Blogger
Chi Does Good, Guest Blogger

Hi Camp Chi Community!

Our names are Alexa Turner and Tess Adelstein! We are both dedicated Camp Chi campers, and board members of Camp Chi’s year round teen program, CTC. We wanted to share our charity project, called Poshmark for SOT, which we started in support of Camp Chi’s Summers of Tomorrow fund.

The Summers of Tomorrow Fund was established in honor of Ron Levin’s 36th summer at Camp Chi. The fund was created in order to help give scholarships to kids who cannot afford camp, and to help make summers at Camp Chi even more magical in the future. We chose to help raise money for the Summers of Tomorrow Fund because we believe that every kid should be able to go to camp, no matter their financial situation. We started Poshmark for SOT as a way to support the fund as a community. Our goal is to help spread the Camp Chi magic as far as we can.

We also started Poshmark for SOT as a way to give back to the Camp Chi community after everything camp has done for us. We can thank camp for so many aspects of our lives, and for being a huge part in developing the people we have become today. Camp was where we met each other for the first time, and we have been best friends ever since. Chi has given us a whole new family full of some of the greatest and most supportive people we have ever met. Camp is so much more than just the place we go every summer, it is our second home. It is our safe place, our breath of fresh air away from any stress or difficulties we experience at home. Camp has taught us so much about independence, inclusivity, love, our Jewish identity, and more. We cannot even express in words our love we feel for camp. We believe that every child who wants to go to camp should be able to, and we hope through our charity we can help make that happen.

So how does it work? Do you have any unwanted clothes? We realized recently that we had tons of clothes in our closet that we knew we would never wear. We wanted to donate or raise money through these clothes, but after some research we discovered that over two-thirds of the clothes that thrift stores such as Goodwill receive end up in landfills, negatively affecting the environment. Through this information, we took initiative and started Poshmark for SOT, where we sell clothing we receive on Poshmark, and donate 100% of the profits to Ron Levin’s Summers of Tomorrow fund. We also  decided that any children sized clothing will be donated to kids in need through Cradles to Crayons, and any clothing we cannot sell after a certain time period will be donated to the Epilepsy Foundation. Through helping these 3 charities, we believe that we can have a huge impact on not only the Camp Chi community, but on our society as a whole.

Our Mission: To help raise enough money to have an impact on the Summers of Tomorrow Fund, to gather clothes to donate to kids in need through Cradles and Crayons, to help raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation through clothing donations, and to encourage others to shop second hand and better our environment.

How can you help? We are asking anyone who lives in Chicago or within an hour of the suburbs area to consider donating any unwanted clothes that they are looking to get rid of. These can be ANY SIZE, CONDITION OR GENDER.

Donations we are looking for:

  • Clothes, including but not limited to:
      • Tops
      • Bottoms
      • Jackets
      • Jeans
      • Shorts
      • Dresses
  • Shoes
  • Jewelry

We are doing no-contact clothing pick ups right from your home. All you would have to do is leave a bag of your clothes outside your door. We also have been having people drop off clothes at one of our two homes, located in Chicago and Highland Park. If you would like to donate, you can fill out the form HERE, or DM us on our Instagram @PoshmarkForSOT. Be sure to follow us for updates on our charity and our Poshmark closet!

We also have 100+ items already listed on our Poshmark. Click HERE to check out our closet! Help us raise money for the Summers of Tomorrow Fund, and get a new outfit in the process! All of our prices are negotiable! We have already sold over 25 items, and can’t wait to keep going.

If you would like to help, but do not have any clothes to donate, and don’t need anything new for your closet, we are also taking cash donations! Donate through our PAYPAL.

Thank you to everyone who has helped so far! Any donation, big or small, helps us raise money and make an impact. If you have any questions, please dm us on Instagram or email us at poshmarkforsot@gmail.com
