What’s On Your Ultimate Chi Playlist

By Camp Chi

Chi Centennial

Over the century Camp Chi has existed, music has evolved. Yet we have no doubt that if campers from each year were surveyed, they would all agree that the music at camp had a huge impact on their experience. For many, hearing a certain song can take you back to your summers at Chi, from sitting on the beach, dancing with your friends, or enjoying a bonfire. That could be for those who attended Chi just 5 years ago or 5 decades ago. The music of camp is one of the links that connects the different Chi generations to one another. Our current campers may not know who Harry Chapin is, but they certainly know Circles. The same could be said for Rick Recht and The Hope for some of their parents or grandparents.

In 1921 neither Harry Chapin or Rick Recht were born yet. Neither was James Taylor, Carole King, Cat Stevens, Debbie Friedman, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, or any of The Beatles. Camp today wouldn’t be what it is without the music of the aforementioned artists. From Shabbat to Song Sessions, campfires and cabin bonding, music is an integral part of the camp experience today, as it no doubt was a hundred years ago.

With 2020 coming to an end, and people sharing their top artists and songs on social media, it got us thinking about the Ultimate Camp Chi Playlist. Very few people would have the same exact playlist, and even fewer would have their songs ranked in the same order.

We are asking you to tell us the top 5 songs you would put on your Camp Chi playlist. We want to see how the music and songs have changed, or not changed, over the century of Chi. You can either enter your information in the survey below and we’ll post it for you, or you can take this blank copy and post it on your social media story (and tag us). Then, share with your camp friends, family members who attended Chi, and in your camp network.

We’ll collect your lists, calculate the data and eventually reveal the Ultimate Camp Chi Playlist. In the meantime, enjoy this curated YouTube playlist of some of our favorite camp songs.
