Why Work at Chi
Camp is a magical place. At camp, each day is an adventure and each session a journey. But who creates that adventure and curates the journey? The staff of course! Our staff work tirelessly to come up with creative programs that both challenge, teach, and give campers moments to savor and memories to cherish. Last month, we provided an overview of working at Chi. This month, with the input of staff past and present, we have presented the answer to the age-old question: Why Should I Work at Camp Chi?
Great Resume Experience
When you are looking for a job, you will need to market yourself. Some people will tell you that you must get an internship (a debate we will talk about in the future.) But that is not necessarily the case. You gain so many skills working at camp- creativity, leadership, collaboration, time management, patience, perseverance, and so much more! No two days are the same and we promise you will be challenged and supported each day. Where else can you plan superhero training? Balance the needs of yourself and 12 kids who are depending on you? And these skills are not just for employment purposes! The life skills you gain while sharing a room with 3 other staff and a cabin with 12 kids are immensely valuable. Perhaps nothing is better on a resume than camp experience.
Connections Around the World
Camp Chi is a global community. We have staff from all over the world, and many return year after year. For our international staff, working at Chi gives them the opportunity to learn about our culture and travel all around North America. Similarly, our American staff (and our campers) get to learn about other cultures and countries. The best part about this- the friendships that form are lasting ones. A lot of our American staff study abroad during college, and often they meet up with their camp friends in their home country. And when the international staff travel after camp, they will frequently visit the different colleges along their routes to see their camp friends. Having a place to stay in most countries- now that is home hospitality!
Paying it Forward
A majority of our staff went to camp as kids, most of them at Camp Chi. The impact those experiences had on them is what drives them back to camp each summer. The desire to give back to the community and give campers summers they will never forget like their staff did for them is usually the number one reason staff cite for being at camp. And that competitiveness to one-up your experience for the next generation is what keeps the programs and traditions of camp fresh. Every staff member who grew up at camp can name a staff member who impacted their life in huge ways and want to do the same- now that is the Camp Chi Magic going l’dor v’dor, from generation to generation.
